It is with deep regret that we have to inform you that the 2020 Corfe Mullen Carnival is cancelled due to the Covid-19 Coronavirus.

At an emergency meeting of the organising committee held on the 19th March, it was concluded that following the Government’s new public health guidance regarding avoiding social contact for an undefined period, there was no option other than to cancel this year’s event.

Chairman David Mills speaking on behalf of the organising committee said that this was the first time in at least three decades that the Carnival had been cancelled and that whilst it was a hard decision, it was the right decision to protect the health and wellbeing of our community.

The Carnival also has obligations to consider with over 70 stall holders and vendors as well as many service providers arranged for this year’s event. Taking into account the inevitable hardship that will be encountered by every organisation during this challenging period, the Carnival will refund all booking fees received immediately.

The three primary charities selected for support by the Carnival in 2020 will be carried over into 2021.

The 2020 Corfe Mullen Carnival 5K and Children’s one mile run scheduled for the 16th June has been postponed as we monitor developments to establish if the run can take place later this year.

The Corfe Mullen Carnival is an event staged by the community for the community and the challenging period ahead will cause hardship and concern for many local people.

With this in mind the Carnival will make an immediate cash donation to the Corfe Mullen Foodbank followed by additional monthly donations whilst the Covid-19 crisis continues to have an impact on our community.

We will now focus our efforts on ensuring that the Carnival Christmas tree and festive lights return at the end of November and be bigger and brighter than last year.

On behalf of the Corfe Mullen Carnival Committee, we would ask that you follow advice to keep yourself safe and well and we look forward to seeing you again in June 2021.
